Hypothesis
A precise and testable statement about the assumed relationship between variables
OPERATIONALISED
Directional hyp
States the direction of the relationship that will be shown between the variables
Tended to be used when research already exists and suggests a particular outcome
Non-directional
States there will be a relationship, but not what direction
Used when there is no previous research or the research is contradictary
Experimental hypothesis
A hypothesis used only in experiments which predicts a difference and has an IV and DV
Research hypothesis
a hypothesis that predicts a difference in the measured variable or correlation between variables
Alternative hypothesis
A hypothesis which predicts a difference or correlation following a null hypothesis.
One tailed hypothesis
directional
two tailed hypothesis
non-directional
null hypothesis
a hypothesis that predicts no difference in a variable or no correlation between variables.
