What causes Hyperkalemia?

A
  • Addison } dcrease n K+ excretion
  • tissue damage
  • acidosis
  • oliguria (little urine)
  • blood transfusion (casue by the breakdown of Blood)

NI/TX for hyperkalemia

A
  • monitor all system
  • discontinue IV K+
  • for renal impaired –> administer Na+ polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate) {pomotes Na+ absoprtion and K=excretion)
  • administer IV–>Ca gluconate to avert myocardial excitability
  • IV–>hypertnic glucose (5% dxtrose to remove excess K+ into cell)
