S/S for hypercalcemia
A
- increase BP, bounding pulse, decrease HR
- dimnished/absent tendon reflexes
- renal caluli (flank pain)
- Polyuria/Polydipsia
- neurosis ( bad case of anxiety)

What causes Hypercalcemia?
A
- hyperparathyroidism/ hyperthyroidism
- use of glucocorticoids
- dehydration
- use of lithium
- Addison’s

NI for hypercalcemia
A
- meds inhibit Ca+ reabsoprtion–>phophorus, Calcitonin, biphophonate, prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors (aspirin/NSAID)
- discontinue IV w/ Vit D/ Ca+, thiazide diurectics
- move client carefully for pathological fracture d/t bone reabsoprtion
- avoid Ca+ base antacids (Tums, rolaid, Maalox, Mylanta)
