Severe vomiting ocurring mostly between 8-12 weeks gestation

- Increased levels of b-hCG
- Nulliparity
- Obesity
- Family history
- Past medical history

RCOG Triad
A
- 5% pre-pregnancy weight loss
- Dehydration
- Electrolyte imbalance

Pregnancy-unique quantification of emesis (PUQE)

Admissions criteria
A
Continued N + V AND
- Unable to keep down fluids or oral antiemetics
- Ketonuira +/- weight loss despite treatement
- Co-morbidity

Management
A
Rest + avoid triggers
FIRST LINE = Oral cyclizine or prochloroperazine
SECOND LINE = Oral ondensitron or metoclopramide
Admission for IV Saline (0.9% NaCl) + KCl

Side effects of Ondesetron
A
Small risk of cleft lip if used in 1st trimester
