A
- Local immersion:
- Bleeding
- Wound maceration
- Full body immersion
- Cardiac instability
- Profound epilepsy
- Suicidal pts
- Bowel incontinence
- Infections that can be spread by water

Thermal Agents: Hydrotherapy - Precautions
A
- Use liners for patients with burns/wounds/blood-borne pathogens
- Add disinfectant and if open wounds are present
- Standard precautions in infected environment (goggles, gown etc. - splashing)
- Local Immersion:
- Decreased temp sensation
- Impaired cognition
- Recent skin graft
- Confusion Disorientation
- Deconditioned state
- Full body immersion
- Confusion
- Disorientation
- Decreased strength, endurance, balance or ROM
- Medications
- Urinary incontinence
- Hydrophobia
- Respiratory problems
- Alcohol ingestion
- Very hot/warm water
- Pregnancy
- Multiple sclerosis
- Impaired thermoregulation

- Treatment Temperature:
- 103-110 F = whirlpool
- 100 F = Hubbard Tank
- 95-100 F = PVD
- 92-96 F = open wounds
- Treatment time: 20 or up to 30 minutes
