Hydraulic Flashcards
What systems do are the hydraulics responsible for?
Flight controls, landing gear, brakes.
How are hydraulic systems 1 and 2 cooled?
A shared air/fluid heat exchanger. No fluid exchanges occurs within the heat exchanger.
Why doesn’t hydraulic system 3 require any cooling?
The components for system 3 do not pass near any heat sources that would require extra cooling.
Hydraulic SOVs can be closed by selecting the respective ____ switchlight or the ____ switchlights.
ENG FIRE PUSH or HYD 1/2 SOV
Hydraulic pump ____ will continue to operate regardless of switch position following ___ deployment.
3B
ADG deployment
What is the name of the fluid found in the hydraulic lines?
SKYDROL
How many hydraulic pumps are there are the CRJ 900? Describe them:
6 pumps; 3 primary 3 backup.
Systems 1 and 2 A pumps are engine driven, the rest are electric pumps.
Arrange the hydraulic systems in terms of size from largest to smallest.
3 largest
2 med
1 smallest
What components would you lose if you lost hydraulic system 1? (Use synoptic page)
OB Multi function spoiler(spoileron/flt spoiler), OB Ground spoiler, L reverser.
What components would you lose if you lost Hydraulic system 2? (Use synoptic page)
IB Multi function spoiler (spoileron/flt spoiler), LG Alternate Extension, R reverser, OB Brakes.
What components would you lose if you lost hydraulic system 3? (Use synoptic page)
IB Ground spoiler, Landing gear extension, Nosewheel steering, IB Brakes
What would you be concerned about if you were to lose Hydraulic system 2 and 3?
Landing gear deployment would have to be done by manual release handle. Nose gear will not deploy. Braking would only be done by accumulators up to 6 times with no anti skid.
What effects on the braking system would occur with a loss of hydraulic system 3?
50% of braking loss due to IB brake loss.
How many brake applications would be possible following failure of hydraulic systems 2 and 3?
Up to 6 applications from accumulators.
When will hydraulic pumps 1B and 2B turn on in the AUTO position?
During critical phases of flight when flaps are greater than 0 and cross side bus is powered with any AC GEN operating.
When will hydraulic pumps 1B and 2B turn on in the ON position?
When cross side bus is powered with any AC GEN operating.
When will hydaulic pump 3B operate in the AUTO position?
Flaps greater than 0 and any AC GEN operating.
What are the normal system pressures and quantity?
3000 PSI and 45-85%
What temperature will solicit a HYD 1/2 HI TEMP message?
Greater than 96 degrees C
When will hydraulic pump 3B operate regardless of switch position?
When ADG is deployed
In cruise the right engine flames out and cannot be restarted. What would happen with hydraulics? Would a HYD 2 LO PRESS message appear?
Engine driven pump would fail. HYD 2 LO PRESS would appear. B pump would need to manually be turned on since pumps don’t respond to LO PRESS automatically.
TRUE/FALSE, Hydraulic 1B,2B,3B will turn on automatically following a low pressure condition in their respective system?
False
You are following HYD 1 LO PRESS checklist when you receive a HYD 2 LO PRESS caution message. What should you do?
Run QRH for double system failure.
After an engine failure the QRH directs you to turn the associated HYD B bump to ON. Why?
Engine driven pump has turned off due to engine failure. B pump will need to be activated manually since there is “low pressure”.
What PSI does the LO PRESS hydraulic system message turn on at?
Less than 1800 PSI
Besides brake applications during Hydraulic failures, what are the accumulators responsible for?
Absorbing surges in the system, activating the parking break.
How many total accumulators are there?
5 total, one for each hydraulic system and 2 for brakes.
