Fire and Overheat Flashcards
How many fire loops are on the APU and Engines?
Dual Loops
How many fire loops are on the MLG bays (Main landing gear)?
Single loop
What computer provides overheat detection to the engine pylon?
AILC (Anti-Ice Leak Controller)
The forward cargo area is equipped with ___ smoke detectors. The aft cargo bay is equipped with ___. The flight crew is alerted when:
3, 2
Majority of smoke detectors indicate smoke (2 or 1).
How does the lavatory fire system work?
Single smoke detector detects and Auto Halo fire extinguisher deploys.
What indications would you have with an engine fire?
Master warning, Aural, EICAS, Fire switchlight
What’s the difference between an APU fire on the ground and an APU fire in the air?
Automatically put out after 5 seconds on ground. In air pilots must manually deploy bottle.
How many fire extinguisher BOTTLES exist on the aircraft and what are the locations?
- 1 APU bottle
- 2 in Lavatory
- 2 for engines
- 2 for cargo
7 total
What are the benefits of a 2 loop system?
Redundancy, less false readouts, dispatch-ability
What happens when you press either ENG FIRE PUSH switchlight?
GIV3S
Generator Off, Ignition inhibit, bleed/oil/hydraulic SOV off, Squib armed.
What is the difference between a “FIRE FAIL” caution message and a “FIRE SYS FAULT” status message?
Resistance change speed difference.
FIRE FAIL = both loops fail
FAULT = one loop fails
An engine fire occurs after you have terminated the aircraft, do you have to reconnect AC power to actuate the ENG FIRE PUSH switchlights?
No, EMER Bus is a hot bus on DC battery.
How do the cargo fire bottles work/
One discharges immediately, the other discharges over 60 minutes (limitation)
If a fire occurs in both cargo compartments would you be able to fight both of them?
No, both bottles are used for the first fire.
Would cargo fire bottles be effective if cargo compartment doors are open?
No, Fire would keep them running.
