A babys ability to udersand what is said to and about them
Babbling stage
Begining about 4 months the stage of speech development in which the infant spontaneously utters various sounds at first unrelated to the household language. After 10 months that changed
One-word stage
The stage in speech development, from age 1-2, were child speaks mostly in single words
Two- word stage
Begining about age 2, the stage where soeach moves to two words
Telegraphic speech
Early speech stage where a child speeks like a telegram
Aphasia
Imparment of language, usually caused by left- hemisphere damage either to the Broca’s area or Wernicke’s area.
Broca’s area
Controles language expression- and area of the frontal lobe, usually in the left hemisphere, that directs the muscle movements involved in speech.
Wernicks area
Controls language reception- a brain area involved in language comprehension and expression, usually in the left temporal lobe.
Linguistic determinism
Whorf’s hypothesis that language determins the way we think
