HW 30 Flashcards
Mental age
Bient, believed that people who were not intelligent were just behind a certain amount. Like they could be 8 and have a mental age of 7.
Intelligence test start
France, Alfred Binet
Standord- Binet
The widely used American revision of Binets original intelligence test
Intelligence quotient (IQ)
Defined originally as the ration of mental age (ma) to chronological age (ca) multiplied by 100. IQ=ma/cax100. Average performance for a given age is 100.
Achievement test
Reflect what you have learned
Aptitude test
Predict your ability to learn a new skill
Weschsler Adult intelligence scale
Most widely used intelligence test. Contains verbal and performance subtests
-similarities, vocabulary, block design, letter-number sequence
Standardization
Defining meaningful scores by comparison with performance of a pretested group.
Normal curve
The symmetrical, bell shaped curve that describes the distribution of many physical and psycological attributes. Most scores fall near the average, and fewer and fewer scores lie near the extreams
Reliability
The extent to which q test yeilds consistent results, as assessed by the consistency of scores on two halves of the test, or on retesting
Validity
The extent to which a test measures or predicts what it is supposed to.
Content validity
The extent to which a test samples the behavior that is of interest.
The road test fir drivers has content validity because it samples the tasks a driver routinely faces
Predictive validity
The success with which a test presicts the behavior it is designed to predict; it is assessed by computing the correlation between test scires and the criterion behavior
Reason ability/ age
Cross- selection method suggest delcine.
Longitudinal method suggests more stability
Crystillized intelligence
Our accumulation knowledge and verbal skills; tend ti increase over time.
