Humerus Flashcards
What are the 2 joint formed by the humerus?
Proximal end articulates with glenoid fossa to form the Glenohumeral joint
Distal end articulates with Ulna to form the elbow joint
What is another name for the bicipital groove?
Intertubercular Sulcus
Which part of the Humerus form the elbow?
Olecranon Process
What does the bicipital groove house?
Long head of the biceps brachii attaches here
Which side of the humerus is the deltoid tuberosity located? What is its function?
lateral side, attachment point of the deltoid muscle
Functionally and structure what is the Glenohumeral joint?
Functionally: diarthroses (unstable)
Structurally: Synovial Ball and Socket
What functions to deepen the socket of the Glenohumeral joint?
glenoid labrum (fibrocartilage)
Which muscle group is the Glenohumeral joint depend on for support?
Rotator Cuff
What are the 3 capsular ligament involved with the Glenohumeral joint?
Anterior
Middle
Inferior (Thinnest)
Where does the Coracohumeral ligament run from?
Extends from the coracoid process to the greater tubercle of the humerus. It is tight at both ends with the shoulder rotates laterally which means this ligament is important in joint stability.
What joint is known as the “secondary socket” of the shoulder?
Coracoacromial Ligament/Joint
The Coracoacromial ligament is protected by what structure?
Subacromial bursa (inferior to the tendon of supraspinatus muscle)
Where is the transverse humeral ligament located and what is its function?
Crosses the bicipital groove of the humerus and holds the tendon of biceps brachii to the floor of the bicipital groove to prevent bowstringing.
