Attracting, developing and maintaining the workforce
What is HRM?
Is a matching process, integrating the organisations strategy and goals with the correct approach to managing the firms capital. They are activities undertaken to attract, develop and maintain an effective workforce within an organisation.
What does attracting an effective workforce include? Describe each step
Planning- is the forecast of HR needs and the projected matching of individuals with expected job vacancies.
Recruiting- is activities or practices that define the desired characteristics of applicants for specific jobs. It also requires assessing the organisations needs. This is done through a job analysis, job description, job specification. Recruitment method include both internal and external methods.
Selecting- is the process of determining the skills, abilities and other attributes a person needs to perform a particular job. Selection devices include an application form, interview, employment tests.
What does developing an effective workforce include? Describe these….
Employee orientation- designed to familiarise new employees with their jobs, coworkers and key aspects of the organisation.
Training and development- planned effort to facilitate employees learning job related skills and behaviours. Types of training involve on the job training, mentoring and coaching, classroom teaching and self directed learning.
Developing- this is through performance appraisals which are the process of observing and evaluating an employees performance, recording the assessment and providing feedback
What does maintaining an effective workforce include a consideration of?
