Describe the two layers of external environment…

A

General environment- effects the organisation indirectly, it provides the general context for management decision making. It includes the international dimension, technological dimension, socio cultural dimension, economic dimension, legal political dimension and natural dimension.
Task environment- the inner layer of the external environment that directly influences the organisations operations and performance. It includes sectors that conduct day to day transactions with he organisation. Includes the customers, competitors, suppliers and labour market.

  1. To adapt to the external environment. This is done through boundary expanding roles, flexible structures such as inter organisational partnerships, mergers and joint ventures, forecasting and scenario planning.
  2. To influence the external environment, so try to change the external environment. Through advertising and public relations, political activity, trade associations

Corporate culture is the system of shared beliefs and values that develops within an organisation and guides the behaviour of its members. What are the two aspects of corporate culture?

A

Visible manifestations of corporate culture. They are all things that one can see hear, and observe by watching members of the organisation. Include, stories, heroes, rites and rituals and symbols.
Invisible culture are the underlying assumptions and beliefs which are the essence of culture and may be embedded so deep that members may not be consciously aware of them. It determines why things are the way they are. It’s an unwritten but shared understanding of how things are done in the organisation.
