Human Evolution Flashcards
What evidence is there to support human evolution?
Fossils, genetics, mtDNA and Archaeology
Homonids walk on two legs. Another word for this is…
Bipedial
Lucy is an example of which species of homonid
Australopithicus Afararensis
Mrs Ples, Tuang child and Little foor are an examples of which species of homonid
Australopithecus Africanus
The “Handy man” is an example of which species of homonid
Homo Habilis
Why is the nickname Handy Man given?
Was the first tool maker/ 1st evidence of tool use

Name the 9 main human features
1) Large forehead
2) s- Shaped vertebrae
3) Opposable thumbs
4) Robust pelvic girdle
5) Sexual dimorphism
6) Arch in foot
7) Non-opposable toes
8) Straight femur
9) Shorter arms and weaker shoulder girdle
Name the two Human Evolution theories
Out of Africa Hypothesis and Multi-regional hypothesis
Explain the Out of Africa Hypothesis
2 migrations. 1st = H.Habilis leaves africa and evolves into H. Neanderthalis and H. Erectus
2nd = Meanwhile in Africa H.Habilis evolves into H.Erectus and then into Homonins. Homonins move out of Africa replacing all other species of homonid around the globe.
Explain the Multi-regional hypothesis
H.Erectus evolved into H.Sapiens in multiple regions all over the world independently of one another.
