HOW TO DO ENDO Flashcards
steps to endo?
- diagnose tooth
- pre-op radiograph
- locate and access canals
- working length and mechanochemical preparation
- temporise
- obturate
- radiograph to ensure length is met
- restore
- post-op radiograph
what are gates glidden drills used for?
for accessing the root canal
once you’ve accessed the canal, what are the steps?
- K File 10/15 until resistance - watchwind
- coronal flare with SX - brush motion
- establish working length with K file
- coronal shaping - S1 and S2
- work up to F1, F2 and F3 (finishing files) until WL is reaches
what must you do between filing?
irrigating with sodium hypochlorite
how do you temporise?
- dress with non-setting calcium hydroxide
- place cotton wool pledget to prevent restorative material getting stuck in canal
- use chemfil rock as temp
why is non-setting calcium hydroxide good for temp?
high pH
antibacterial
stimulate healing
radio-opaque
what instruments are used in obturation?
paper points
GP
accessory GP
finger spreads
tubiseal
how is the master GP picked?
depends on the finishing file
F1 - primary
F2 - secondary
F3 - tertiary
how should the master GP feel?
slight tug back from the canal
how do you obturate and restore?
- dry canal with paper points
- place in master GP w/ cement
- place finger spreaders
- place accessory points until compact
- use heater plugger to remove excess GP
- line cavity with RMGIC
- restore
what are the protaper files? what are the colours and which areas do they file?
the shaping files
SX - gold
- widen coronal third
S1 - purple
- widen coronal and mid third
S2 - white
- widen mid third
what are the finishing file colours?
F1 - yellow
F2 - red
F3 - blue
