ENDO Outcomes and Managing Failure Flashcards
When should RCT be Assessed?
at least after 1 year
What would be Favourable Outcomes?
no pain
no swelling
no symptoms
no sinus tract
no loss of function
radiographic evidence of normal PDL
What determines an Uncertain Outcome?
if lesion is same size or only smaller
According to the ‘Strict Criteria’ If there is an uncertain outcome, how long should the lesion be assessed for?
until resolved or at least 4 years for the tooth to return a normal radiographic appearance OTHERWISE FAILURE
What other Alternative Treatment can be Used for good success rate?
implant
When is RCT associated with post-treatment disease?
when lesion persists after 4 years
According to Loose Criteria, what is the success rate for endo?
90%
What is the Loose Criteria?
tooth should fit all favourable outcomes, clinically more practical
4 Factors Contributing to Success
- absence of lesion
- work to working length
- well condensed filling with no void
- good quality coronal restoration
4 Factors Contributing to Failure?
- sinus
- increased lesion size
- flare up
- no perforation
Which way does a canal scleroses?
from the top, down - so if you can access the top, should be able to access it all
What is Iatrogenicic Damage in RCT?
creation of ledges
