How Cells Work Flashcards

1
Q

What are cells?

A

Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. They provide structure for the body, take a nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialised functions.

What is the function of the cell membrane?

A

•keep structure and shape of cell
•semi permeable: let some things in and out
•communicated with other cells

Q

Describe the structure of the nucleus

A

Nucleus is inside a fully enclosed nuclear membrane, it contains the majority of the cells genetic material DNA

Describe the structure of ribosomes

A

• and into areas of the cytoplasm, scattered freely (free ribosomes), or connected to the endoplasmic reticulum (bound ribosomes)

Q

Is the function of ribosomes

A

ribosomes are the protein borders or the protein synthesizers of the cell. they are like construction people, you connect one Amino acid at a time and build long chains.

Q

Describe the structure of the mitochondria

A

Unlike other organelles, they have two membranes, and out of one and another one. They contain Ford scored Christae and a fluid called matrix.

Q

What Is the function of the mitochondria?

A

Mitochondria are known as the powerhouse of the cell. They provide the energy to the cell.
Act like a digestive system, which takes the nutrients, break them down, and create energy rich molecules for the cell

Q

Describe the structure of centrioles

A

The centrioles are found in pairs and move towards the pose of the nucleus, when it is time for cell division

Q

What Is the function of centrioles?

A

Out of the cell when it comes to the south division. The centrioles help the formation of the spindle fibres that separate the chromosomes during cell division.

Q

Describe the structure of lysosomes

A

Alive so it’s basically a specialised vessel that holds a variety of enzymes. The enzyme proteins are first created in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Those proteins are packaged in a vessel and sent to the Golgi apparatus. Lysosomes are single membrane organelles

16
Q

What Is the function of lysosomes?

A

Lila serves a little digestion machines, they go to work when the cell absorbs or eat some food. Where is the material is inside the cell, the lessons, attach and release the enzymes(acid)
• say, digest, excess, or worn out, parts of the cell, food, particles, and engulfed, viruses, or bacteria

17
Q

Describe the structure of the Golgi apparatus

A

Gogi apparatus consist of a system of membrane bound fluid filled vessels arranged, parallel to each other

18
Q

What is the function of the Golgi apparatus?

A

• packaging, organelle
• gather, simple molecules and convince them to make complex molecules
• it, then takes complex molecules, packages them in vessels, and either stores them for later use or send them out of the cell
• makes lysosomes

19
Q

What is a simple molecule?

A

Simple molecule contains one a few bonds, they are small. Also known as monomers.

20
Q

What are complex molecules?

A

Complex molecules, composed of many interconnected parts, or subunits, can contain hundreds or thousands of ones. Also known as polymers.
