How Cells Work Flashcards
What are cells?
Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. They provide structure for the body, take a nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialised functions.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
•keep structure and shape of cell
•semi permeable: let some things in and out
•communicated with other cells
What is the name of the fluid inside the cell?
Cytoplasm
What is the name of the outside layer of the human cell?
Membrane
Describe the structure of the nucleus
Nucleus is inside a fully enclosed nuclear membrane, it contains the majority of the cells genetic material DNA
What is the function of the nucleus?
• controls are so great and multiplication
• regulates cell metabolism
• is where synthesis of RNA takes place
What is metabolism?
The process, by which your body converts what you eat, and drink it to energy
Describe the structure of ribosomes
• and into areas of the cytoplasm, scattered freely (free ribosomes), or connected to the endoplasmic reticulum (bound ribosomes)
• age of proteins and ribonucleic acid
Is the function of ribosomes
ribosomes are the protein borders or the protein synthesizers of the cell. they are like construction people, you connect one Amino acid at a time and build long chains.
What is the function of smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum?
• transportation of proteins, and other carbohydrates to other organelles
• formation of nuclear membrane during cell division
Describe the structure of the mitochondria
Unlike other organelles, they have two membranes, and out of one and another one. They contain Ford scored Christae and a fluid called matrix.
What Is the function of the mitochondria?
Mitochondria are known as the powerhouse of the cell. They provide the energy to the cell.
Act like a digestive system, which takes the nutrients, break them down, and create energy rich molecules for the cell
Describe the structure of centrioles
The centrioles are found in pairs and move towards the pose of the nucleus, when it is time for cell division
What Is the function of centrioles?
Out of the cell when it comes to the south division. The centrioles help the formation of the spindle fibres that separate the chromosomes during cell division.
Describe the structure of lysosomes
Alive so it’s basically a specialised vessel that holds a variety of enzymes. The enzyme proteins are first created in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Those proteins are packaged in a vessel and sent to the Golgi apparatus. Lysosomes are single membrane organelles
