What is something you could do to make a pet farm animal more comfortable in the hospital?
T-shirt that smells like home
Bring a friend
Give then things they like to do (burrow for pig)
What are some common sites of cauterization in farm animals?
Jugular, auricular, cephalic, coccygeal
What side should you place a camelid catheter on?
Right jugular better (away from esophagus) - difficult due to transverse process and valves
-Palpate and can use ultrasound if needed
What are some examples of reasons to send an animal to the hospital?
Deep injury that needs to be surgically repaired
Down animal- need hip lift or aqua cow
Pet cow with no suckle - need IV fluids
What are some common reasons camelids are hospitalized?
Neurologic disease (p. tenuis, heat stress, trauma) , neonatology, anemia, ADR/colic/inappetance
