What should a full-liquid diet be like?
Liquids can be thicker and provide more nutrients than a clear-liquid diet. Can have more sugary liquids

Solids
What should a clear-liquid diet be like?
Thin liquids that don’t leave residue in the GI tract and are more swallowable than some of the liquids that you can have on a full-liquid diet.
Can have light sugar.
Contains less nutrients than a full liquid does.
(Sports drinks, broth, gelatin, etc.)
What should be limited/ avoided in a clear-liquid diet?
Liquids that leave residue in the GI tract.
Solids should be avoided.
What should be in a regular diet?
No limitations

What should a mechanical soft diet be like?
Foods that are easy to chew and low in fiber. (Also aren’t spicy).
(Mashed potatoes, soups, etc.)

Highly fibrous foods, foods that are hard too hard to chew, spicy foods
What should a puréed diet be like?
Food that can be swallowed without chewing.
(Yogurt, pudding, etc.)

Food that has to be chewed before swallowing
What should be in a renal diet?
Vegetables, certain fruits, etc.
What should be limited/ avoided in a renal diet?
Sodium, phosphorus, red meats, and potassium
What should be in a cardiac diet?
Whole wheat, vegetables, fruits, food high in fiber, etc.
What should be limited/ avoided in a cardiac diet?
Salty foods, red meats, etc.
What should be limited/ avoided in a low sodium diet?
