Hormones And The Endocrine Glands Flashcards
The prosterior pituitary stores the hormones :
Antidiuretic hormone
Oxytocine
The anterior pituitary produces and secretes the hormones :
Human growth hormone Thyroid stimulating hormone Adrenocorticotropic hormone Follicle stimulating hormone Luteinizing hormone Prolactin
The thyroid releases the hormone:
Thyroxine
Calcitonin
The parathyroid releases :
Parathyroid hormone
The adrenal cortex releases :
Glucocorticoids : cortisol
Mineralocorticoids : aldosterone
Gonadocorticoids
The adrenal medulla releases :
Epinephrine and norepinephrine
What does ACTH do ?
Stimulates adrenal cortex to secrete cortisol
What does FSH do ?
Stimulate production of ova and sperm
What does LH do ?
Stimulates sex hormone production for ovaries and testes
What does prolactin do ?
Stimulate milk production
What does ADH do ?
Promotes retention of water by kidneys
What does oxytocin do ?
Stimulates uterine muscle contractions and release of milk by the mammary glands
What does thyroxine do ?
Increases metabolic rate
What does calcitonin do ?
Lowers blood calcium levels by inhibiting the release of calcium from bone and reabsorption of calcium through kidneys
What does PTH do ?
Raises calcium blood levels
