Homestasis Flashcards
What are the 4 key hormones which control the menstrual cycle?
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
Oestrogen
Luteinising hormone (LH)
Progesterone
What does oestrogen do? And where is it found
Oestrogen is produced in the ovaries and causes the development of the thick, spongy uterus lining
Where is progesterone produced and what does it do?
Progesterone is produced in the ovaries after ovulation
It’s responsible for maintaining the lining of the uterus during days 14 to 28
When progesterone levels drop/decrease this will trigger the breakdown of the lining. This then marks day 1 of the next menstrual cycle
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis describes the processes that happen in a cell or organism to maintain/keep conditions optimal
