Cells And Control-Mitosis Flashcards
What is interphase (first phase of cell cycle)
This phase the cell creates extra sub cellular cell parts (mitochondria) and DNA replication occurs in order to make copies of chromosomes
What is mitosis/cell division (second phase of cell cycle)
The cell splits to form 2 daughter cells, which are both identical to the parent cell.
List these all in correct order (first to last) (1-5) prop phase, telophase, metaphase, anaphase, cytokinesis
1) Prophase
2) Meta phase
3) Anaphase
4) Telophase
5) Cytokinesis
What’s a good way of remembering the stages of mitosis
Pathfinder (Prophase) Makes (Metaphase) A (Anaphase) TTV (Telophase) Cry (Cytokinesis)
Prophase?
Nucleus starts to break down and spindle fibers appear
Metaphase?
The end of this phase chromosomes line up on the spindle fibers across the middle of the cell
Anaphase?
Chromosomes that were copied are separated and moved to either sides of the cell on the spindle fibers
Telophase?
Membrane forms around each set of chromosomes to form a nuclei
Cytokinesis?
Cell surface membrane appears/forms to separate the two cells
What is a diploid?
2 sets of chromosomes
What is a haploid?
1 copy of each type of chromosome found in Gametes (sex cells)
