Diabetes Flashcards
What is diabetes?
A disease in which a body’s ability to produce insulin
What is insulin And what does it do
Insulin is a hormone which reduces blood sugar and it makes cell TAKE IN glucose and the liver CONVERT glucose to glycogen
What is glucagon and what does it do?
Glucagon is a hormone within the pancrease which promotes the breakdown of glycogen to glucose in the liver
What is type 1?
Your pancreas does not make enough or any insulin it makes people feel extreme hunger thirst and fatigue but most importantly weight gain
What is type 2?
Your cell stop responding to insulin it’s symptoms may be extreme weight loss and blurred vision
What does the liver do?
Converts glucose to glycogen and takes in more glucose
Effects of glucagon?
If blood sugar levels are to high the pancreas makes glucagon this causes the liver to convert glycogen to glucose for energy
