What is acne?

The acid mantle is the low Ph level of skin secretions. The acid level prevents the multiplication of bacteria on the skin surface.
What are defensins? How do they rid the body of bacteria?
Defensins are a natural antibiotic they attack bacteria which punches hole into their cell walls which causes them to break apart and leak cellular material.
What is the physical barrier?
The physical barrier is the water resistant barrier of glycolipids of the epidermis.They block the diffusion of water and water soluble substances between cells. This prevents their loss and entry from the body.
What are substances which are able to pass through the skin?
Fat soluble substances, oleoresins, organic solvents, salts of heavy metal, selected drugs, and penetration enhancers.
What cells are part of the skin barrier and immune system?
Dendritic cells are part of the biological skin barrier and immune system.
What is the skin barriers second line of biological defense?
Dermal macrophages are a second line of biological skin barrier defense they dispose of viruses and bacteria.
