Cutaneous mucous and serous membrane Flashcards
What is skin also known as?
The cutaneous membrane
What are mucous membrane?
This membrane lines passageways that open to external environments. (i.e digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive tracts)
What cells are found in mucous membrane?
Stratified squamous and simple columnar epithelia.
How do goblet cells interact with the mucous membrane?
Goblet cells secrete mucus to line the inner wall.
Where is serous membrane found?
In areas where closed off from the external environment.
What two layers make up the serous membrane?
The parietal layer which is the topmost layer, the serous fluid in between which allows layers to slide across one and other easily, and the visceral layer.
What cells make up the serous membrane?
The simple squamous epithelium.
What are the three types of serosae?q
1.The Pleurae: which lines the thoracic and covers lungs.
2. Pericardium: which encloses the heart
3.Peritoneum: which encloses the abdominopelvic viscera.
What is needed in order for tissue repair to occur?
Tissue needs to divide and migrate.
Which two ways can injured tissue react?
1.Regeneration cell reform same uninjured tissue.
2.Fibrosis where scar tissue is formed.
What is needed to start the healing of tissue?
The formation of granulation tissue because it contains capillaries.
