Glands Flashcards
What are the two types of sweat glands humans possess?
The eccrine and apocrine
What is the secretory process?
The nervous system is stimulated and contracts the secretory cells. These force sweat through the glands duct system and up to the surface.
Where are the eccrine sweat glands?
Eccrine sweat glands are present everywhere on the body except the palms, soles, and forehead.
What function does the eccrine sweat gland serve?
The eccrine sweat gland controls temperature and some antibacterial properties.
What is used in the form of eccrine sweat?
Eccrine sweat filters blood through a hypotonic filter through secretory cells. Exocytosis releases the sweat to the skin’s surface.
Where can apocrine sweat glands be found?
Apocrine sweat glands are found in the axillary and anogenital regions.
How do the apocrine sweat glands produce sweat?
The apocrine sweat glands filter blood plasma with proteins and fatty substances which released through exocytosis.
Name two areas without sweat glands.
The nipples and external genitals.
What is the acidity of sweat?
Sweat has a Ph of 4 or 6
What are two types of important apocrine glands?
Ceruminous glands are in the ear canal which produce cerumen or ear wax.
Mammary glands are specialized sweat glands which secrete milk.
What type of glands are sebaceous glands?
Sebaceous glands are simple branched alveolar glands found everywhere except palms and soles.
