Reasons for rapid erosion

A

Easily eroded rock type- cliffs are made of Boulder clay
Narrow beaches- supposed to slow waves down and reduce erosion but doesn’t give this protection
People worsen situation- groynes built in mappleton which stops material moving down beach and making them narrower
Powerful waves- faces prevailing wind direction which brings waves from Arcitc oCean , builds in fetch

Accessibility is limited as roads on cliffs are in danger of collapsing eg Southfield Lane

Sites of Special Scientific Interest are threatened eg the Lagoons
They are separated from the sea by a narrow strip of sand and shingle. if this is eroded it will connect the Lagoons to the sea and they’ll be destroyed
