History Of The World Flashcards
Hadean Eon
Chaotic. Lasted 800 million years, Earth was bombarded by meteorites and there was severe volcanism. Ocean and atmosphere formed, crust stabilized.
Archean Eon
1.3 billion years. Probably warm. Mostly methane and little oxygen in atmosphere. Most of planet was covered in ocean. Continent formation began. Sky was orange, profusion of volcanoes, sea was green, and shorelines were marked by stromatolites.
Proterozoic Eon
1.9 billion years. Longest period. Oxygenation, origin and diversification of eukaryotes, multicellular animals, continental drift.
Phanerozoic Eon
Modern Humans– divided into paleozoic, mesozoic, cenozoic
Paleozoic Era
Marine life developed. Some developed shells. Land climate changed and land plants emerged. These plants possibly wound up as our coal deposits.
Mesozoic Era
Formation of several continents. Great changes in life. Reptiles!
More continents broke up, many reptile groups ended up extinct.
Cenozoic Era
Mountains were uplifted, and new life forms appeared. Warm-blooded animals, like marsupials and other primitive mammals roamed. Modern birds, deciduous trees. Humans left marks on land.
Ice Age
Pleistocene Epoch
Human Progression
Holocene Epoch
Pre-Cambrian
88% of time span.
