What was the Flexner report?
Dr Abraham Flexner travelled to all medical schools in the US and it lead to many schools closing or merging and only 8 DO schools were left, state licensing boards became stricter as a result. He believed osteopathic medicine was important and a better curriculum was needed.
Describe events occurring in California.
In 1961 california stopped granting DO licenses and offered those doctors an opportunity to change their degree to MD with classes and paying money. COPS was converted into an allopathic school. AOA made a new group called OPSC who fought to keep their DO degrees and legalize licensing again, it was resolved in 1974. 1977 College of Osteopathic med of the pacific was opened.
