Histology of Femal Repro Tract Flashcards
Mucosa?
Lining (membrane) of body passages or cavities that communicate directly or indirectly with the exterior
What does mucosa typically contain?
Mucin-secreting cells
Serosa?
Outermost layer (covering) of an organ in serosal cavity (peritoneal, pleural, pericardial)
What does serosa consist of?
Fibroelastic tissue covered by mesothelium continuous with the lining of the cavity
Basement Membrane?
Acellular fibrous (collagenous) membrane seperating the organized cellular elements of a tissue from the interstitium
Epithelial?
The purely cellular avascular layer covering and lining all the internal and external surfaces of the body and associated glands
Stroma?
Supportive connective tissue around the parenchyma
Parenchyma?
functional tissue of an organ, which performs the function of the organ
Menstrual endometrium?
Fragmented glands and stroma and degenerating blood
What is this?

Menstrual Endometrium
Proliferative Endometrium (early)?
Straight glands lined with pseudostratified epithelium and stroma with spindle shaped cells
What is this? What is located at 1? What is located at 2?

Proliferative endometrium (Early)
- Straight glands lined with pseudostratified epithelium
- Stroma with spindle shaped cells
What is this? When does this occur? What is it evidence of?

Early Secretory Endothelium - prominent basal cytoplasmic vacuoles
Begins 36-48 hrs post ovulation
Evidence that ovulation has occured
What is this?

Secretory Endometrium
What do Granulosa cells produce? What does that do?
FSH –> stimulates themselves to convert androgen into estradiol via aromatase during the proliferative phase
What happens to the granulosa cells after ovulation?
They turn into granulosa lutein cells that produce progesterone
Ovary Serosa?
Single cell layer of modifeid peritoneal mesothelial cells, overlying stroma of spindle shaped cells
What is the top layer?

Ovary Serosa
What is seen here? What are the two layers?

Uterus - 1. Endometrium 2. Myometrium
What is this?

Fallopian Tube
What is this?

Fallopian Tube
Cell type in the exocervix? Endocervix?
Stratified Squamous
Columnar Epithelium with abundant cytoplasmic mucin
What is this?

Endocervix
What is this?

Exocervix
In childhood, where does the exocervix meet the endocervix?
Cervical os
What is this?

Breast lobule where milk will be produced with lactation
