Histology - Cartilage Flashcards
What are the three types of cartilage?
Hyaline cartilage
Fibrocartilage
Elastic Cartilage
What type of cartilage is this and was is contained within?
This is hyaline cartilage, it has condrocytes within the lacunae and its ECM is made up of strong collagen fibres bound by a gel-like substance.
It provides flexibility and support.
It covers the articular surface of joints.
It has a perichondrium
What type of cartilage is this and what are its components?
This is fibrocartilage. It is made of collagen fibres intersped with condrocytes in their lacunae.
It provides strength and rigidity.
It has no perichondrium.
What type of cartilage is this and what are its components.
This is elastic cargilage made up of elastin and collagen fibres, intersped with chondrocytes.
Forms auricle of the ear.
It is covered by perichondrium.
