Histology Flashcards
Significance of histology of seminal vesicle
-honeycomb appearance
- irregular lumen
- pseudostratified tall columnar type
- well devloped musc. ext.
Histology differences between prostaate and testis
Prostate has a more fibromuscular stroma, as well as acellular bodies in its lumen for its secretions: corpora amylacea
The testis lumens are secretory of sperm cells and therefore will display a graduation of maturing sperm within the lumen spaces. There is more smc in the stromal composition too.
Significance of histology of the ductus deferens
stellate-like lumen
obvious muscular layers surrounding lumen
- pseudostratified tall columnar
Histology of epididymis
multiple lumen of epididymis dt coiled nature
- pseudostratified, with long immotile ‘sterocilia’ which are in fact very long microvilli = absorption
Significance of sertoli cells
supportive cells found within the lumen of the testis. provide nutrition and phagocytose excess spermatid cytoplasm.
Significance of myoid cells
peritubular cells in the testis.
smc, contractile properties, contributing to transport of spermatoza and fluid produced
Histological Glandular feature of breast tissue
- tubular acinar glands
& empty into cuboidal lined or low columnar ducts surrounded by MYOEPITHELIAL CELLS
=> go on to lactiferous duct emptying onto the surface of the nipple
Histology if breast tissue during pregnancy
- proliferative alveolar duct epithelium
- colostrum (product) within the secretory alveoli: lipid filling the acini
ACTIVE:
less connective stroma
more glandular secretory tissue
secretory cpaacity increased in intralobular cells
LACTATING:
products within the secretory acini spaces (not as empty or clear as active)
great profileration of intralobular connective tissue
HISTOLOGICAL CHANGES within the uterus
- PROLIFERATIVE PHASE
- development of stratum compactum and spongialis INTO stratum functionalist
- proliferation of glands + spiral arteries - SECRETORY PHASE
- endometrial thickening
- convoluted endometrium
- sawtooth glands; filled with glycogen (post ovulation)
- leucocyte infiltration in stroma - MENSES
- slough off stratum functionalis
- s. basale remain
- lots of blood at lumen dt degeneration of endometrium
Histological features of the fallopian tube
- LABYRINTHIAN X-SECTION
- simple columnar, ciliated and secretory
- serosa
- muscularis mucosa = circular and longitudinal
- mucosa =
infundibulum = branching fimbriae
ampulla = short diameter, looks like a brain; fertilisation occurs
isthmus = tall folds, ciliated cells
Primordial Follice Histological Features
incomplete development; found on edges of the ovary
PRIMARY Follice Histological Features
highly organised appearance
surrounded by follicular cells
surrounding theca capsule: theca internal
Secondary Follice Histological Features
theca internus diversifies into: theca internus and theca externus
follicular fluid bubbles forming
Graffian Follice Histological Features
single large antrum surrounded by
CUMULUS OOPHORUS
=> travel to fallopian tube
corpus luteum
nil fert. = corpus lueum degenerates
corpus luteum persists if fert occurs
looks like theres a colon
