Q

Why did the forth crusade happen?

A

The pope wanted to declare another crusade following Saladins death to stike his empire at egypt. Since they need a lot more ships for the crusaders, the city state of Venice volunteered to construct ships for around 30,000 crusaders. However, only less than half of the crusaders showed up meaning each crusader could not pay enough for the cost of the ships so Venice proposed a solution to attack the Byzantine Empire, for the money. That was why the fourth crusade happened.

Q

effect on black death

A

This affected peasants since they are now in such short supply, they will demand higher pay, and feudalism broke down really fast. Since many people saw this as “Gods vengeance” they would then blame the Catholic Church for not stopping the plague or doing anything about it so decline of church power happened. Another way it affected their culture at the time was through their art.
