Hips/Pelvis Flashcards
Which bones that comprise the pelvic (hip) girdle?
- hip bones (2)
- sacrum
- coccyx
Describe the difference between the greater (false) pelvis and lesser (true) pelvis.
Lesser pelvis - Below the pelvic brim + encloses the pelvic cavity. Includes: coccyx, plane of pelvic outlet, pelvic axis, pubic symphysis
Greater pelvis - Above the pelvic brim + forms the lower part of the abdominal cavity. Includes: right/left iliac fossa, plane of pelvic inlet, sacral promontory
Describe the hip bone.
Ilium - anterior gluteal line, inferior gluteal line, anterior superior iliac spine, iliac fossa, ischium, auricular surface, auricular line, ischium, greater sciatic notch, posterior inferior iliac spine, posterior gluteal line, iliac crest
Ischium - lesser sciatic notch, ischial tuberosity, ischial spine
Pubis - pectineal line, pubic tubercle, body, superior ramus, inferior ramus
Other features - obturator foramen, acetabular notch, acetabulum
Describe the femur.
Head, neck, body, fovea capitis, greater trochanter, intertrochanteric line, intertrochanteric crest, lesser trochanter, gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, lateral epicondyle, lateral condyle, adductor tubercle, medial epicondyle, medial condyle, and intercondylar fossa
Describe the patella.
Medial articular facet, and lateral articular facet
Describe the tibia.
Medial condyle, pes anserinus, lateral condyle, tibial tuberosity, anterior border, fibular notch, and medial malleolus
Describe the fibula.
Head and lateral malleolus
Describe the tarsal bone.
Medial cuneiform, navicular, talus, cuboid, calcaneus, intermediate cuneiform and lateral cuneiform
Describe the foot bone.
Metatarsal I-V, proximal phalanges, middle phalanx, distal phalanx, and metatarsal I
Describe the three arches of the foot.
Transverse arch - formed by navicular, three cuneiforms, base of the 5 metatarsals
Medial longitudinal arch - from calcaneus, rises to talus, descends through navicular, the three cuneiforms and the heads of the three medial metatarsals
Lateral longitudinal arch - begins at calcaneus, rides at cuboid, descends to the heads of the two lateral metatarsals
