Hip Myology (2) Flashcards
What are the primary muscles involved with motions of the hip?
Illiopsoas
Rectus femoris
TFL
Sartorius
What are the secondary muscles involved with motions of the hip?
Pectineus
Adductor brevis
Adductor longus
Adductor magnus (oblique fibers)
Gracilis
What is the innervation of the rectus femoris, Sartorius, and Iliopsoas?
Femoral nerve
What is the innervation of the TFL?
Superior gluteal nerve
What are some diagnoses with a tight ITB?
Snapping hip syndrome
Inflammation of trochanteric bursa
What does a tight ITB cause?
Reduced hip adduction with hip extended
What muscle is affected with external rotation of the tibia?
Biceps femoris
What muscle is affected with internal rotation of tibia?
Semimembrinosous
Semitendinosous
What are the functions of the hip abductor muscles in open kinetic chain?
Hip abduction
Hip internal rotation and flexion (anterior fibers)
Hip external rotation (posterior fibers)
In flexion all fibers internally rotate the hip
What is the function of hip abductor muscles in closed kinetic chain?
Stabilizes the pelvis in unilateral stance
What does ER action lines lying perpendicular to femoral shaft equal?
Excellent ERs
What does ER action lines lying parallel to head and neck of the femur equal?
Excellent compressors
What are runners with LE injuries associated with?
Hip abduction and flexor weakness
What is the internal rotation torque with flexed vs extended?
3x more internal rotation torque when hip is flexed
