Malalignment of femoral head within acetabulum
With no treatment, arthritis can develop early (no treatment can completely prevent it)
Congenital Hip Dysplasia
Develops during last trimester in utero; cultural predisposition, malposition in utero, genetics
Degeneration of femoral head
Best outcome is for children 6yrs and under, otherwise, they have a higher risk of developing osteoarthritis
Legg-Calve Perthes Disease
Caused by disturbance in blood supply
Femoral head slips posteriorly in acetabulum
Without treatment, bone tissue may die, and it can lead to other disorders (such as OA)
Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
Caused by a weak growth plate
Neuromuscular disorder cause pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks and along the leg
Treatment can effectively alleviate the problem
Piriformis Syndrome
Compression of the sciatic by the piriformis muscle
Inflammation of the bursa, near the greater trochanter
If treatments are not effective, surgery is usually required
Trochanteric bursitis
Caused by injury, over use, or incorrect posture
