Elbow Flashcards
Fracture of the distal humerus
Full healing and return to normal activities can take up to a year
Distal Humeral Fracture
Caused by direct blows or falling on an outstretched and locked elbow
Bones of the arm and forearm come out of alignment
Recovery usually occurs with no lingering effects
Elbow Dislocation
Result of elbow hyperextension from fall on outstretched arm
A nervous system disorder which can cause pain/weakness/ loss of feeling in the upper arm, elbow, and hand
Heals with proper treatment, sometime spontaneously healing on its own
Pronator Syndrome
Caused by compression on the median nerve, usually by the muscles, tendons, etc. in the forearm
Damage to the anterior interosseous nerve which impairs motor function in the arm (most notably the pincer action)
Resting the extremities and surgery are possible treatments
Anterior Interosseous Syndrome
Median nerve compression
Nerve disorder that causes a tingling or pins and needles feeling I the 4th and 5th fingers
Most cases will resolve spontaneously over time
Ulnar Nerve Entrapment
Entrapment of the nerve in the cubital tunnel
Chronic or acute inflammation of the tendons causing lateral elbow pain, particularly with tasks requiring gripping
Response well to therapy, but tends to relapse
Lateral Epicondylalgia
Caused by overuse of the tendons or by trauma/direct blows
Inflammation of the radial nerve
Heals with treatment
Radial Tunnel Syndrome
Caused by entrapment of the radial nerve as it goes from the upper arm to the wrist.
