Q

neutral thermal environment:

Definition:

Importance for High-Risk Infants:

Premature and Low-Birth-Weight Infants:

A

The neutral thermal environment is the temperature range in which a newborn’s body does not have to work to either cool down or generate additional heat to maintain a normal body temperature.

These infants may lack the insulation provided by normal fat stores, making them more susceptible to heat loss.
Sick or Medically Fragile Infants: Infants with certain medical conditions may also struggle to regulate their body temperature effectively.
