Clinical Features

A

May involve eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea

Unilateral:
Pain
Photophobia
Red Eye
Decreased visual acuity
Herpetic lesion on eyelid
Pre-auricular lymphadenopathy
Dendridic / Geographic ulcer lesion stain brightly with fluorescein

+/- a/w h/o genital or oral herpes

Management: infection limited to eyelids

A

Acyclovir 800 mg PO 5 times daily
10 days
Ophthalmology consult in 24-48 hrs

Management: infection involving conjunctiva

A

Viroptic (Trifluoridine) 1% Solution
1 drop q 2 hrs while awake (Max 9 drops daily)
Until re-epithelialization
Then 1 drop q 4 hrs while awake for 7 days
Max 21 days treatment

Erythromycin 0.5% ointment
bid until lesions

Ophthalmology consult in 24-48 hrs
