act mainly on HT/SP (KI)
someone in cold environment/sitting on cold surfaces/eating too much cold
Restore Yang Qi (from yang collapse)
Treat Sxs of Interior Cold
- restore normal Fx of internal organs (P: weak, slow, deep; T: pale with white coat (no scallops)
- Relieve pain: epigastric & abdominal (cold=pain)
- Dispel cold to warm yang
- warm SP/ST (nausea/vomiting, belching, loss of appetite, diarrhea, undigested food particles, dysentery
- strengthen yang (pallor of face/tongue, clear& profuse urination, decreased sexual abilities)
- restore yang collapse (hypothermia, shock, coma, P: failing depp/hidden or floating/weak)
Cautions w/ these herbs
Herbs are spicy, warm, drying
yin deficiency (can injure fluids)
heat
blood loss
pregnancy
high doses (if PT weak)
Add tonification herbs (if PT weak)

rescue devastated yang from collapse: warming and assisting HT & KI
- restores devastated yang: hospital Fx: shock, hypothermia, low bld pressure, shallow breath, cold. In China put in IV
- Warm KI/SP: KI/SP yang def: cold, diarrhea, polyuria (sometimes constipation-no “push”)
- expel cold/ reduce pain: warms channel, reduces Bi Zheng (arthritis)
- warms HT yang: palpitations, angina, Careful w/ patients re “Ht Pulse” - may be result of trauma.
Contra: all phlegm herbs: Ban Xia (toxic), Bei Mu, Gua Luo

- Hospital Fx: oils help cardio vascular&nervous systems. coldness/shock/weak pulse, increase circulation, low BP
- transforms cold phlegm (more coagulated/damp: coughing, wheezing, chronic bronchitis, watery clear, easy to expel mucous.
- Pao Jiang = charred version, warms channels/stops bleeding

- warms meridians: good at expeling cold: gyno stuff: amenorrhea, stasis w/ clots or late periods, Bi Zheng
- aids skin healing as a powder in external applicationor drink in formula- helps push blood
- tonification fx for qi and bld deficiency: fatigue, BM issues, pallor, dizziness, dry skin
- Hot above/cold below- leads fire back to KI (true cold/false heat): cold low limbs, flushed face, wheezing

- analgesic: pain reliever, works thru nervous system, head ache, St pain, cold, hernia pain- relieves LV constraint
- excellent at warming ST: reduces vomiting, diarrhea w/ undigested food particles, nausea, rebellious qi (brings down)
- mouth/tongue sores, regurgitation
- pin worms (sl toxic)

- cold belly pain: fixed, sharp, sudden diarrhea, like ST caught a cold- cant TnT fluids, toothache interior or exterior as compress
roundworms, auxiliary herb- need to add other herbs
HU Jiao

recommends as food not formula; great table medicine
black and white (and green) are same-one w/o husk- red different
- warms mdle, reduces pain: indigestion, diarrhea, epigastric/abd pain, toothpain
- opens the appetite: sl. nausea, vomiting, low appetite

hotter: cold sunken into mdle jiao leading to abd pain, nausea, vomiting
- Warms midle, reduces pain: Kapha type- cold, damp type, nausea, vomiting, belching, abd pain, diarrhea= St coldness (SP qi fatigue)
- Typically used for toothache> antibiotic effect on toothache
