  1. pacifies anchors LV, calm spirit: restlessness, insomnia, headaches, mania, convulsions/movement, parkinsons
  2. nourish KI, hlep LV, deafness, tinnitus, dizziness, poor vision (calms folks w/ these Sxs)
  3. aids KI to grasp qi: chronic asthma/wheezing

Contra: SP/ST def

Long term/high dose

Long Gu

A

Calm the spirit

Fossilized Bones, Os draconis

sweet, astringent, neutral

HT, LV, KI

raw/untreated= sheng, regular Long Gu is sheng

  1. calms LV/anchors yang: dizziness, vertigo, migraines, hypertension, blurred vision
  2. sedates HT/calms spirit: irritability , restlessness, insomnia, palpitations, emotional distress, bad temper, anxiety
  3. calcined therefore prevents leakage of fluids. Put in hot fire-loses all water in it- astringes: spermatorrhea, night sweats, (any sweats) nocturnal emissions, vag d/c from deficiency,
  4. Can use on skin for yin sores, eczema, burns, concave, weeping, clear, chronic oozing.

Contra: exterior disorders (dont want to astringe these)

use as powder topically- too sticky to cook

  1. sedates/calms by wearing or making tea. Pretty strong: anxiety, palpitations, dream disturbed sleep (nightmares), Seizures d/t childhood fright
  2. dissipates masses, stasis, amenorrhea, fibroids, coronary artery disease (CAD)
  3. promotes urination (moves liquids: urination/blood)
  4. tree heals self w/ leaking sap: good for sores, ulcers, externally for trauma (LV= nervous system, HT= spirit) can wear near HT chakra

easy to use, calms the LV, helps flow of Qi

  1. nourish LV yin, nourish HT blood, irritability, insomnia, palpitations, anxiety, blood not nourishing HT: timidity, flustered emotions, emptiness. LV opens to eyes: decreased vision, manifests in sinews: so dry, spasmy sinews, easily injured, fingernails: dry brittle, splitting: moistens

Dont let get rancid= carcinogenic aflatoxins

  1. nourishes HT/Calms spirit: irritability, nightmares, forgetfulness, palpitations, anxiety= HT deficiency
  2. moistens/eliminated dryness: HT/KI. LI yin, constipation, anti aging: dry/loss hair, dry skin, hot flashes, low back/knee pain. diminished yin or jing (do not toast for Fx #2)

For folks w/ phlegm

  1. calms spirit/HT: anxiety, constrained emotions, disorientation, brooding, addiction/self-deception, lies, fright (HT phlegm)
  2. expel phlegm, clears orifices, cough, wheezing, bronchitis (post digestive phlegm) -like an SOS pad- scrubs mind, ears, eyes - clears perceptions

contra: do not OD- will get itchy throat, hot skin eruptions

not used singly- use at least w/ licorice

for folks who d/n have phlegm

  1. Calm HT: insomnia, nightmares, pallor

a) excess: persons behavior hot, jerky, robust, scary
b) deficient: need support, encouragment, propping up
often mixed- so combine herbs

2 types herbs

a) sedative herbs that calm (excess folks)
