- treats constipation (moistens intestines
contra: phlegm, diarrhea, wet cough

can cause stagnation
- dry mouth, dry lungs, cough, blood streaked sputim, LU cancer, fibrocystic breasts, T.B.
- nourishes KD yin: nights sweats, steaming bones, 5-center heat, flushed cheeks, diabetes (before gets bad)
- Moistens intestines
Contra: cold from deficiency- bec = COLD

- Nourishes HT/calms spirit: gentle sedative for insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, nightmares, palpitations

- nourishes yin and blood: w/ HT: insomnia, memory, palpitations. w/ KD: nourishes hair, fertility, sexuality. W/ LV: eye impairment, dizziness, vertigo. Pale pple, prevent threatened miscarriage
- extinguishes wind=movement= yin boosted then no room for wind=eye twitches, itchy skin
- sedates yang/calms mind (HT): anxiety, nervousness, restlessness, headache -“like doing yoga”
Contra: external patterns bec tonifies (need release the exterior instead)

- Hormones: may increase overall effect of insulin (Nu zhen Zi), steroids, sex hormones, aromatase inhibitors
