What is Hep B?
It is a DNA virus transmitted via blood or bodily fluids.
Most people fully recover but some become carriers of virus.
To test for hepatitis B you test for HBCAB + HBSAG
What is Hep c?
It is an RNA virus, which is spread by blood + bodily fluids.
Testing:
- HEP C antibody screening test
- Hep C RNA testing
What is Hep D?
Is a RNA virus that only survives in patients who have a HEP B infection
What is Hep E?
Is an RNA virus that is transmitted via faecal oral route
Goes away after month, no treatment needed
what is auto immune hep ?
Rare cause of chronic Hep:
-Type 1 - occurs in adults
- Type 2 - Occurs in children
Type 1 autoantibodies present:
- Anti nuclear antibodies
-anti smooth muscle antibodies
-anti soluble liver antigen
Type 2 Autoantibodies presnt:
- Anti LKM
- Anti LCI
Diagnosis:
-liver biopsy
Treatment:
- High dose of steroids ( prednisolone)
