Q

Platelets

A

injury to the endothelial lining causes platelets to adhere.
forms a temporary platelet called aggregation. Blood test time(BTT) is used to evaulate the primary stages of hemostasis. also done before surgery.

Q

(Cp) Prothrombin time test(PT/INR)

A

is used to evaluate the extrinsic pathway. The test also monitors anticoagulant therapy, such as for patients on blood thinners: Documadin. Warfarin, and Heparin.

Q

(CP) Partial thromboplastin time(PTT)

A

is used to evaluate intrinsic pathways.
Note: Any coagulation test such as PTT/PT, must always be drawn from a vein never IV or capillary puncture.
PT/PTT, drawn from light blue top tube and fill completely.

Q

Fibrinolysis Notes

A

As tissue repair begins, plasmin (an enzyme) breaks down the fibrin clot.
Fibirn Degradation product’s (FDPs) measurements monitors the rate of fibrinolysis.
