glucose tolerance test/gray tube
This test is used to diagnose diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy).
Diurnal Variations
daily cyclic variations of chemistry levels for 24hrs is what diurnal variations refer to.
The levels peaks in the early morning ( about 0800) and reaches its lowest level between 2400-0400 usually occurs three to five hours after sleep onset.
PKU (phenylketonuria)
A PKU is done in the first 72hrs an infant is born. A genetic disease that can cause mental retardation and brain damage.
under special circumstances, screening can be done using urine.
(ABG) Arterial Blood Gas
This test measures the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the patient’s blood. it also measures the blood pH balance.
1. The test needs to run on 15 min of collection
2. The needles need to be 90 degrees
3. Heparin tubes are used to collect ABG.
Type of tests/ four primary tests performed on arterial samples.
Blood Ph levels=BPH
blood carbon dioxide= CO2
Blood Oxygen levels=O2
Blood Bicarbonate= Bicarb
