This phase starts at the 16-18th week of gestation.
The bone marrow becomes the primary site of hematopoiesis between 5th and 6th month of gestation.
Continues a the primary source of blood production after birth and throughout life.
Medullary or Myeloid Phase
This is the marrow in the first few years of life and as we age, it undergoes retrogression.
This is active during the hematopoietic process and are arranged in cords.
Red Marrow
This is the process wherein yellow marrow becomes red marrow.
Retrogression
This kind of marrow contains adipocytes.
Yellow Marrow
These are defined as helpers of hematopoiesis.
Hematopoietic Elements
This plays an important rolse in nurturing and protecting HSC’s.
There is the prescence of different types of components like collagen, fibronectic, osteoclasts, etc.
Unique Microenvironment
What is an example of a factor that help stimulate hematopoiesis in the bone marrow.
These are produced in the kidneys and it triggers our HSC in order to develop into erythrocytes.

SITE: Bone Marrow
ONSET: 5th and 6th month of gestation.
Primary site by the end of the 24 weeks
AT BIRTH: Primary source of cell production.
4 Y/O: Formation of fatty reserves.
18 Y/O: Only active tissues are:
- Pelvis
- Ribs
- Skull
- Vertebrae
- Sternum
- Proximal extremities of the long bone (Femur & Humerus).
