Used for anemia

Used for fever, pain, and inflammation
A/E: GI bleeding, thrombocytopenia, hepatitis, Reye syndrome
CI: children <12 yo

Clopidogrel (Plavix)
anti-platelet drug
inhibitor of ADP-induced platelet aggregation
Used fro prophylaxis of MI & stroke; unstable angina, placement of coronary stent
A/E: bleeding, irritated GI tract, TTP, neutropenia
Pentoxifylline
hemorheological (reduces blood viscosity)
Used in peripheral vascular dz (& cerebrovascular dz)
A/E: N&V, dizziness, HA, flushing, angina, palpitations, arrhythmias, hepatitis, jaundice, agitation, sleep disturbances, hypotension, thrombocytopenia
Apixaban
(Eliquis) anticoagulent
Factor Xa inhibitor (dec thrombin generation & thrombus development)
Used to prevent risk of stroke & systemic embolism in A-fib pts
A/E: bleeding, intracranial hemorrhage
Warfarin
(Coumadin)
anticoagulent, Vitamin K antagonist (inhibits factors 2, 7, 9, 10 and anticoag protein C & S
Used for prevention & treatment of venous thromboembolism (MI, AF, DVT, PE)
A/E: bleeding, anemia, rash, epistaxis
*Avoid dietary Vit K
Preg X
Heparin
anticoagulent (prevents conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin)
Used for acute tx of DVTs, PE, or other thromboembolic events & acute MIs
A/E: hemorrhage, thrombocytopenia, myalgia, skin irritation, anaphylaxis
Deferoxamine
iron chelating agent
Used for acute iron overload, chronic iron overload
A/E: bluish fingernails, lips, or skin, blurred vision, seizures, fast breathing & heart rate
