Heart(topic 1) Flashcards
What is the role of tendanous chords
Ensure valves are not turned inside out when experiencing high pressure
What are the 3 valves found in the heart
Tricuspid valve
Bicuspid valve
Semi lunar valves
What does dyerstole mean
Relaxing
What does systole mean
Contracting
What is the pacemaker of the heart
Sinoastrial node
What is the cardiac cycle
The process of a complete sequence of filling and pumping of blood
What is the role of the bundle of his
Located in septum and receives electrical excitation
What are purkinje fibres
Responsible for the contraction and relaxation of the heart responsive to the electrical exitations received by the bundle of his
What happens during Atrial systole
Both atria are contracting and blood is being forced into the ventricles hense why the atrioventricular valve is open
What occurs during ventricular systole
Ventricles contract from the bottom up so blood is squeezed into the arteries the blood can’t return to the atria because the atriaventrivular valves are closed
What happens during Diastole
The atria and ventricles relax while the atria fill up with blood process(beginning of cardiac cycle) process repeats itself
Is the pressure in the heart high or low during systole and diastole
Pressure high during systole
Pressure Low during diastole
Exsplain any pressure differences in the heart
Pressure is higher in the left ventricle compared to the right this is due to the left atrium contracting harder due to having more muscle fibres.this is due to the left ventricle needing to pump blood to further areas
How do you calculate stroke volume
Cardiac output x heart rate
One reason why the heart is separated into left and right sides
Prevent mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
