Heart: Physiology Flashcards
What is the blood flow “map” for deoxygenated blood?
Vena cava –> right atrium –> right ventricle –> pulmonary artery –> lungs
What is the blood flow “map” for oxygenated blood?
Lungs –> pulmonary veins –> left atrium –> left ventricle
–> aorta
Difference between artery and vein?
They move blood away form the heart whereas veins move blood toward the heart
What is the intrinsic conduction system?
It sets the pace for heart contractions
Path of the intrinsic conduction system?
SA Node –> AV Node –> AV Bundle –> Bundle branches –> Purkinje fibers
What creates the noise of the first bump in your heart beat?
SA Node
What creates the noise of the second bump in your heart beat?
AV Node
What Node fills the ventricles?
AV Node
The SA Node is also known as the?
Cardiac Pacemaker
What Node contracts the atria?
SA Node
What is Diastole?
relaxation of the heart, filling with blood
What is Systole?
Contraction of heart
Two major steps in diastole?
1.) Atrial Contraction
2.) AV valve closes
Four major steps in systole?
1.) Isovolumetric contactions
2.) Ejection phase
3.) Semilunar valves close
4.) Isovolumetric relaxation
What is cardiac output?
Amount of blood pumped by each ventricle in one minute
