Heart Info Flashcards
1
Q
Blood
A
- Carries oxygen and nutrients to cells
- Carries carbon dioxide and wastes away from cells
1
Q
Purpose of Heart
A
- Pumps blood through large vessles “arteries”
- Branch into smaller vessles “arterioles” and “capillaries”
- Blood returns through venules and veins
1
Q
Types of Tissues
A
- Connective (blood and heart valves)
- Epithelial (lines blood vessles and heart)
- Muscle (heart muscle)
- Nerve (signals heart to contract)
2
Q
Artery
A
- Thick elastic walls with small inner circumference
- Transports blood away from heart
3
Q
Components of Heart
A
- Right Atrium, Left Atrium, Right Vernicle, Left Ventricle
- Atrium is top, Ventricle is bottom
- Right side has oxygen poor blood, left side has oxygen rich blood
4
Q
Capillary
A
- Thin walls (substances pass through) with smallest inner circumference
- Materials exchanged between blood and body
5
Q
Vein
A
- Thin, less elastic walls w/ valves and large inner circumference
- Transports blood towards heart
