What are fats needed for?
cell membranes, insulation and producing energy.
Made up of fatty acids and glycerol
What amounts are vitamins and minerals needed in?
small amounts for the healthy running of the body
What function does fibre have?
keeps food moving through the body and prevents constipation
What word is used to describe a person who does not have a balanced diet?
malnourished
What is the metabolic rate?
The rate at which chemical reactions in the cells of the body are carried out.
What can affect the metabolic rate?
- amount of activitiy undertaken
- genetics
Where is cholesterol made?
liver
Where is cholesterol found?
In the blood
What can cholesterol do?
Block arterie by forming plaque leasing to atherosclerosis - increasing the risk of heart disease
What are statins?
Drugs that are used to lower the amount of cholesterol in the blood.
What factors contribute to the effects of cholesterol?
